FLORIDA, NOVEMBER 2, 2022– As You Are is a new virtual clinic focused on diagnosing children with autism sooner. Telehealth appointments with a physician are now available in Florida. By providing diagnostic services for children aged 16 months to 10years when there is a question of autism, As You Are is breaking geographic barriers for families who have been sitting on long waitlists, helping diagnose more children early in development. Chief Executive Officer Kayla Wagner started As You Are because she saw a huge need to provide access to high quality care for children in every corner of the U.S.
“During the pandemic, I knew we had to create a solution to this problem. Many children and families wait for over three years, from a first suspicion to a final diagnosis of autism. No one should have to wait that long for any clinical diagnosis, especially children,” said Wagner. “Our trained physicians collapse wait times for a diagnosis from years to weeks.”
The patient experience with As You Are feels like an evaluation a family would receive in a doctor’s office, by using an evidence-based approach, but everything happens through video calls. This makes appointments with a trained physician more readily available to families.
Jenna Eldred, a mother from Columbus, Ohio, was on a 2-year waitlist to have her son evaluated. “The waitlists were insane everywhere. No one would accept his insurance, meaning it would be out of pocket. I was in tears, frustrated and not sure how I could help my son,” she said. “Thankfully, I came across As You Are and was able to get an evaluation within two weeks.”
As You Are accepts all insurance, including Medicaid and TriCare East; coverage is based on each patient’s specific benefits. The As You Are support team provides a benefits investigation prior to the first appointment, and for Jenna, the cost of the diagnostic evaluation was covered based on her child’s insurance plan.
