Get to Know Dr. Debra Wright-Bowers

Q: What is your connection to our mission?

A: As a pediatrician, I have witnessed the frustration of my patients’ parents of whom have children with suspected autism but do not have a formal diagnosis. Prolonged waitlists delay the necessary interventions needed to support their child’s needs. I am grateful to be a part of an organization focused on eliminating barriers to completing an autism evaluation, in addition to coordinating the support needed for children diagnosed with autism to thrive.

Q: Why do you love helping children?

A: I believe a child’s innocence, unfiltered love, empathetic nature, and kind spirit are a reflection of God’s unwavering love, and feel blessed to be able to care for them.

Q: What are your hobbies?

A: I love spending time with my family and am working on intentionally living in the moments with them. I also enjoy cooking, reading, and volunteering.

Q: What (or who) inspires you?

A: Elizabeth Blackwell, the first woman physician, inspired me as a child. My parents’ sacrifice, love, and support motivated me in adolescence, and my kids now push me to be the best version of myself.

Q: Tell us about your family. Any children? What about pets?

A: I am married with 3 children – ages 7, 9 and 16 years old. Riki is my college sweetheart and I married him a couple of months before graduating from medical school. Taegan, my youngest, is fearless, loving, sassy, and an all-round athlete. Peyton, my middle child, loves gymnastics, drawing, and writing graphic novels. Greyson, my first born, loves coding, acting, and figuring out how electronics work. Apollo, our loving dog, completes our family and he loves taking walks, being scratched behind his ears, and playing catch.
