Dr. David Valero

Pediatrician

Dr. David Valero is a board-certified pediatrician with over 10 years of experience in general pediatrics and pediatric functional medicine. He conducts autism evaluations for children starting from 16 months at As You Are and creates functional medicine content for Functional Medicine Insider. Dr. Valero has previously cared for children at Esperanza Health Centers, Lincoln Hospital – Weill Cornell Medical College, and Montefiore Hospital in New York. He received his medical degree from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá and further honed his skills through rigorous training at New York University and Columbia University in New York. Dr. Valero completed his residency at Lincoln/Weill Cornell School of Medicine and pursued a fellowship at the Academy of Integrative Health & Medicine (AIHM). He is fluent in Spanish, which enhances his ability to serve diverse communities. Dr. David Valero is licensed to see families for autism evaluations in Alabama, Illinois, Indiana, Mississippi and Ohio.

Q: What is your connection to our mission?

A: Working with neurodiverse children and seeing them thrive is incredibly fulfilling. It’s a privilege to help families navigate their journeys and witness the positive impacts of our care.

Q: Why do you love helping children?

A: Witnessing their growth and joy is incredibly rewarding. Each step in their development feels like a major leap forward and inspire me daily.

Q: What are your hobbies?

A: I love hiking and exploring nature with my dogs, capturing our adventures through photography, and tackling DIY projects at home to stay active and connected with the outdoors.

Q: What (or who) inspires you?

A: My family inspires me every day with their love, support, and hard work.

Q: Tell us about your family. Any children? What about pets?

A: I’m lucky enough to share my life with a fantastic little squad! There’s my wonderful wife, our adorable 4-month-old daughter who has just started to discover the world with wide eyes, Peggy, our wise 12-year-old pug who loves to eat, and Mochi, our energetic 2-year-old mini-doodle who never runs out of enthusiasm. They all fill my days with laughter, love, and a bit of chaos!
